SANTA ANITA RACE 9 ANALYSIS FOR SATURDAY – 10/12/2019

      RACE 9 – 1 MILE (TURF) – OPTIONAL CLAIMING 40K/N1X

      8 – MOODY JIM (5/2)

      4 – VIA EGNATIA (4/1)

      1 – NOLO CONTESTO (5/1)

      3 – WOUND TIGHT (6/1)

      9 – NORTH COUNTY GUY (6/1)

       10 – M TOWN GEM (8/1)

8 – MOODY JIM broke his maiden in his second U.S. start at Del Mar at 1 1/16 on the turf. He was then ambitiously placed in the G2 Del Mar Derby where he was surprisingly only 3-1 and was seventh the entire trip and finished sixth beaten almost 3 lengths. Unproven vs. winners and I will be playing against him, but if he runs to his stable’s enthusiasm for him and his strong betting support in a stakes race, maybe I’m wrong. We’ll see.

4 – VIA EGNATIA set the pace for the first 3 calls vs. optional 62k/n2x before fading to seventh and last in July at Del Mar. His previous race in May at Santa Anita he was in this exact spot 40k/n1x and won gate to wire. Today he is entered for a 40k tag as the trainer is eager to repeat that winning effort.

1 – NOLO CONTESTO also finished off the board in the G2 Del Mar Derby finishing seventh behind the top horse. His prior race was a second-place finish missing by a head in an Optional Claiming 80k/n1x so this is quite a drop in class. Expecting another good effort today. By the way this horse finished 2nd to Roadster the race before he won the Santa Anita Derby and beat Omaha Beach when he broke his maiden.

3 – WOUND TIGHT finished third at this level and distance last out at Del Mar in September after winning a state-bred 20k/n1x Optional Claimer. Will be prominent early with likely early leader Via Egnatia.

9 – NORTH COUNTY GUY also finished in the money at this level and distance last time at Del Mar while forcing the pace. This one has lost 8 straight races but has hit the board in 5 straight races. Underneath only.

10 – M TOWN GEM has won 2 in a row at this distance on turf but against M62500 and 50k starter allowance horses. Seems to be in over his head but this isn’t the toughest race and he has a strong closing kick which could benefit from what may be a contested pace up front.

These are the kind of races that can make you nice profit IF you get it right.
