BELMONT PARK RACE 8 ANALYSIS FOR MONDAY – 10/14/2019

      RACE 8 – 1 1/8 (TURF) – KNICKERBOCKER (G2) $200,000

      7 – CATHOLIC BOY (7/5)

      3 – LUCULLAN (5/2)

      2 – GLORIOUS EMPIRE (9/2)

      5 – OLYMPICO (8/1)

7 – CATHOLIC BOY is a multiple G1 winner on turf and dirt. His lifetime Turf record is 6-5-0-0, including the G1 Belmont Derby in July of 2018, the G2 Dixie at Pimlico this past May, the G3 Pennine Ridge last year and the G3 With Anticipation at Saratoga as a 2-year-old. The only turf race he lost was the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf finishing fourth in 2017. He is 2 for 2 on the Belmont Turf.

3 – LUCULLAN came from far back to finish third in the G1 Woodbine Mile in September and won his other 2 turf races this year in including the 100k Lure. He has run well at this distance however he fell short in both G3 tries. He will be a late factor if they go too fast early.

2 – GLORIOUS EMPIRE forced the pace and had the lead in a 9-month layoff in a Laurel G3 before giving way in September. This 8-year-old gelding has gone gate to wire in the G2 Fort Lauderdale at Gulfstream last December at this distance and the G1 Sword Dancer and G2 Bowling Green at 1 1/2 and 1 3/8 on the turf at Saratoga. He will likely grab the lead today, with Catholic Boy closely stalking him throughout.
