A longshot legal maneuver aimed at halting funding of an overhaul of Belmont Park has officially fallen flat, which will allow the project that already has started to continue forward.

Paul Oreffice, a partner in both Dogwood Stable and Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners who was in on Preakness Stakes (G1) winner Summer Squall and Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Palace Malice, died Dec. 26 at the age of 97.

Creator, winner of the 2016 Belmont Stakes (G1) and Arkansas Derby (G1), has been sold to stand stud in Saudi Arabia after spending eight years in Japan.
